An Evening with Francis Chan

I had never heard of Francis Chan until quite recently when one of his (many) devotionals showed up on my Bible app on my phone. It was called Crazy Love, and it was pretty interesting, so after I finished the week-long devotional, I bought his book of the same name. And then about a week after that, I saw that he was coming to HK courtesy of the Justice Conference Asia.

It was a pretty interesting talk. I think I often compartmentalise my faith – it’s easier to believe the easy stuff, and not deal with the difficult stuff… like how intense God actually is. But Francis Chan brought it all to the surface today. The theme was our relationship with Jesus, but to show just how incredible Jesus is / what He did for us is, Chan talked about how crazy intense God is… even in the New Testament. It was pretty great to hear it. Sometimes I feel like we sugarcoat the message a lot… Really glad I got to go.

Joyce Meyer

I remember hearing her speak at the Hillsong Conference in 2004… I remember thinking she’s totally overrated. In any case, my mother gave me a Joyce Meyer book last Christmas, which I didn’t read until quite a few months later, when I realised that I couldn’t put it off anymore (the fact that I hadn’t read it kept lingering in the back of my mind as guilt). It was so much better than I expected, and I actually got a lot out of it. Yay. I should really thank my mum, shouldn’t I… Hm.
